A 48-year-old woman was arrested in southern Athens for leaving her dog locked inside a car where temperatures soared.
The incident took place on Monday, shortly before 3 p.m., when police were called at the intersection of Evelpidon and Mykonou streets in Vari, after passersby saw a dog in distress inside a parked vehicle.
Officers who arrived at the scene found the dog shaking and unresponsive and had to smashed the windows to rescue it.
When the owner of the car and the dog appeared she refused to cooperate with the police and was promptly arrested. Officers took the car keys and took the dog to a nearby pet shop where they helped it recover.
