He wrote: “Devastated to share that I have had to withdraw from my first round match due to a recurrence of my arm injury. There have been a lot of painful moments in the last 12 months but this one is definitely the absolute worst as there is no greater honour for a British player than playing at Wimbledon. I will continue to persevere through this. Thank you for the support!!”The injury is another setback in what has already been a difficult year for the former world No. 4. He has spent months dealing with a bone bruise in his left arm along with tendinitis in his knee. Because of those problems, he has played very little tennis since last year’s Wimbledon. Before arriving at Wimbledon, Draper returned to action at the Eastbourne Open. It was his first tournament since April, and he reached the semi-finals, giving fans hope that he was finally back to full fitness.Jack Draper had hoped to stay fit after Eastbourne comebackSpeaking before Eastbourne, Draper said he was not rushing back just to play the grass-court season. He believed he was returning at the right time and expected to stay on the court for the rest of the year.At the same time, he admitted that his injury was difficult to predict. “No, I’m not playing because it’s the grass season. I’m coming back at the point where I’m going to stay on court from now on.”He also added: “These injuries are just so complicated. Who knows, it might never go away.”Unfortunately for Draper, the problem returned much sooner than expected. Instead of beginning another Wimbledon campaign, he now faces another spell of treatment and rehabilitation. His withdrawal also means fans will miss the much-anticipated first-round match against Taylor Fritz.
