A 58-year-old man serving a life sentence in a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act case died while undergoing treatment at the Government Stanley Hospital.The deceased was identified as Venkatesan, 58, a resident of Chromepet. He was arrested by the Chitlapakkam police under the POCSO Act and was sentenced to life imprisonment. He had been lodged in Central Prison, Puzhal, since May last year.The Police said Venkatesan had been suffering from anaemia, haemorrhoids, and stomach pain. When his condition deteriorated, prison authorities rushed him to the prison inmates’ ward at the Government Stanley Hospital on June 21 for further treatment.
