Over 200 DMK cadre were detained by the police in Madurai on Monday for staging a protest, demanding the dismissal of State Minister for Human Resources Management D. Sarathkumar over allegations of using narcotic substances.Recently, a video clip had gone viral on the social media showing the Minister crushing a white substance on his mobile phone using a debit card while watching an IPL match in Chennai. The Minister clarified that he was crushing a tablet for his daughter who was not keeping well on that day. The Minister said he gave the medicine to his daughter.However, the protesters claimed that the Minister was using some narcotic substance in a public place.Condemning the incident, the DMK Students Wing members staged a protest near Andalpuram on Bypass Road, though they had been denied permission.
