Thoothukudi police on Monday detained over 40 DMK members for staging an unauthorised protest here.The party cadre were demanding the dismissal of State Minister for Human Resources Management D. Sarathkumar over allegations that he had used narcotic substances in a public place. The protest was organised by the DMK Student Wing in Thoothukudi. Participants raised slogans against the Minister, demanding his dismissal.The agitation stemmed from a video that went viral on social media, showing the Minister powdering white substance on his mobile phone display using a debit card while watching an IPL match sometime ago. Though the Minister clarified that he had crushed tablets for his daughter, the protestors demanded a detailed investigation into the matter and called for his dismissal.During the protest, police intervened and detained over 40 DMK cadre for organising the protest without permission.
