A section of the cadre of the Communist Party of India (CPI) staged demonstrations in Tiruchi and in the neighbouring districts on Monday urging the State government to completely waive off farm loans taken by farmers from the agricultural cooperative banks and condemning the “anti-people” policies of the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre.The demonstrations were organised as part of a Statewide stir called by the party’s State unit. The demonstration in Tiruchi was organised at Thennur and led by the party’s district deputy secretary R. Suresh Muthusamy. The protesting CPI cadre numbering around 40 raised slogans in support of their demand.The demonstration in Perambalur district was organised near the new bus stand in Perambalur. The cadre numbering around 100 were led by the party’s Perambalur district secretary Jayaraman. CPI State secretary M. Veerapandian was the special guest for the protest. In Pudukottai district, the nearly hour-long demonstration was led by the party’s Pudukottai district secretary Sengodan near PLA roundtana in Pudukottai town. About 45 party members participated in the demonstration. The demonstration in Ariyalur district was organised near the Anna statue in Ariyalur town led by the party’s Ariyalur district secretary Natarajan, said police sources.
