With rising pollution in the Klip River system, affected communities are partnering with UJ researchers to gather evidence aimed at forcing municipal action and environmental recovery.

Residents living along the polluted Klip River are being equipped with scientific evidence to help them push for action against worsening water pollution affecting their daily lives.

The University of Johannesburg's (UJ) Process Energy and Environmental Technology Station (PEETS) has expanded a project that provides communities and organisations along the Klip River and its tributaries with water and air quality data to support calls for intervention from municipalities.

The initiative stretches from the Bosmont Spruit through southern Johannesburg, Riverlea, Soweto, Lenasia, Eikenhof and Midvaal.

For residents in Bosmont, the pollution has become part of everyday life.
