According to Benson-Ihua, the contractors had commenced their protest on Tuesday but were dispersed with tear gas before returning the following day to continue their demonstration over the alleged non-payment of completed contracts.

A contractor has decried the Federal Capital Territory Administration's alleged refusal to pay indigenous contractors for completed works in Abuja.

Indigenous contractors under the FCTA have cried out in desperation, warning that many of their members are on the verge of suicide as mounting debts to banks and money lenders continue to take a devastating toll on their lives following years of unpaid contract sums.

In a video obtained by SaharaReporters, one of the protest leaders, Adebola Benson-Ihua, made the claims while recounting what he described as a tense confrontation between the contractors and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory on Wednesday during the second day of protests at the entrance to the FCTA headquarters in Abuja.

According to Benson-Ihua, the contractors had commenced their protest on Tuesday but were dispersed with tear gas before returning the following day to continue their demonstration over the alleged non-payment of completed contracts.
