The group described the situation as “economic strangulation,” alleging that several contractors had lost homes, businesses and family stability due to mounting debts and loan interests.

About 400 contractors engaged by the Kaduna State government under a controversial N38billion project arrangement have threatened to decommission completed boreholes and retrieve supplied items over alleged non-payment spanning more than two years.

The contractors, operating under the umbrella of the Eagle Brain Human Rights Organisation, accused the state government of abandoning them after they executed projects across Kaduna communities following directives from the Ministry of Local Government.

Addressing journalists in Kaduna State on Saturday, the group’s chairman, Comrade Daniel Ejembi, said the contractors were pushed into financial ruin after borrowing heavily from banks and loan companies to complete government-approved projects.

According to him, the contractors were mobilised in 2023 after the Kaduna State Government entered into an agreement worth N38billion with Formal Act Legacy for the execution of projects including boreholes, supply of hospital equipment, generators, vehicles and machines.
