The approval was announced on Monday by the Federal Ministry of Finance, which said the payments followed a comprehensive verification and reconciliation exercise to validate outstanding obligations owed to contractors.

The Nigerian Government has approved payments to more than 1,240 contractors across various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), following months of protests by indigenous contractors over unpaid debts totalling trillions of naira for completed projects.

The approval was announced on Monday by the Federal Ministry of Finance, which said the payments followed a comprehensive verification and reconciliation exercise to validate outstanding obligations owed to contractors.

In a statement, Mary-Ann Duke, Senior Special Assistant on Communication and Press Secretary to the Minister of Finance, said the government had prioritised the settlement of smaller claims, particularly those below N100 million.

The development comes months after members of the All Indigenous Contractors Association of Nigeria (AICAN) staged protests in Abuja over what they described as the Federal Government's failure to pay more than ₦4 trillion owed for capital projects executed in 2024.
