There is also the contribution of international production to the tourism promotion of the country. The growing presence of movie and television producers in Greece is linked, according to a new study, to an increase in tourist flows in the areas where filming takes place.
Greece has significantly strengthened its audiovisual production sector, says a new study by the Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research (IOBE), carried out with the support of the Hellenic Center for Audiovisual Media and Creation.
Called “Audiovisual Production in Greece: Trends, Economic Contribution and Growth Prospects,” it documents an industry that has significantly expanded its economic footprint over the past decade, attracting investment, creating new businesses and jobs and strengthening the country’s position on the European map of content production.
The sector is no longer limited to the dimension of culture and creation. It acquires a clear economic and developmental weight, with effects spanning employment, investment, tourism, innovation and the digital economy.
According to the IOBE study, the total impact of the audiovisual sector, which includes both the production of works and broadcasting activities, is estimated at about €1.9 billion in terms of GDP.
