Greece is basking in a rare moment of global cinematic attention, capped by the announcement that it will be the guest country at the 2027 Marché du Film, one of the industry’s top commercial platforms, held alongside the Cannes Film Festival.

“Greece is in one of the strongest positions it has ever held on the international audiovisual map,” Leonidas Christopoulos, CEO of Greece’s Film and Audiovisual Center (EKKOMED), tells Kathimerini.

The designation is more than honorary, he said. Greek professionals will receive privileged access to Marché programs and a dedicated screening day, where “films at all stages of production can be presented to leading professionals in the global film market.”

Greece will also have two sessions on the main stage at the Palais des Festivals, under the banner “Ride the Greek Wave,” and will feature in the market’s opening event.

The guest country program started in 2021 and past honorees have included India, Spain, Switzerland, Brazil and Japan.
