Starting June 30, Google will allow developers to redirect users to external payment methods or their own website. The company outlines the new conditions in the Android Developer Blog, which will initially apply to the USA, the European Economic Area, and the United Kingdom.
Google announced the fundamental changes in March 2026, and on June 24, the company presented the specific conditions. The service fee is 10 percent on the first 1 million US dollars in annual revenue and is charged regardless of the chosen payment system. Those who use Google Play's payment system will pay an additional 5 percent billing fee; this is waived for transactions via alternative payment systems or external website links.
For apps that earn well over 1 million US dollars annually, the fees for new in-app purchases upon new installations will be 20 percent, and for subscriptions, they will remain at 10 percent.
Epic agreement pending
The background is the antitrust proceedings that Epic Games filed against Google in 2020 and which ended in 2023 with a jury decision in favor of Epic on all points. In November 2025, Google and Epic agreed on worldwide Android changes. However, the responsible court has not yet confirmed the agreement. Google is implementing the changes nonetheless.
