Government arts and science colleges are reportedly taking measures to fill the additional 20% seats for UG admissions in anticipation of a directive to that effect.The colleges have, by and large, filled most of the seats at the end of second phase of counselling. In Government Arts and Science College (Autonomous), Coimbatore, 1,665 seats out of the total of 1,727 seats have been filled. The remaining vacancies across subjects would be filled with BC, BCM and MBC candidates at the start of next week, it is learnt.Seats in government arts and science colleges located in cities get filled first, and those in government colleges in rural parts are likely to get filled in subsequent weeks.In Coimbatore district, a total of 410 seats are filled every year in the UG programmes of Government Arts and Science College for Women, Puliyakulam, also located in the city. Government arts and science colleges in rural parts are located in Mettupalayam (480 seats), Pollachi (420), Thondamuthur (410) and Valparai (520).Likewise, most seats have been filled in the two government colleges located in Tiruppur city limits: Chikkanna Government Arts College (1,008 seats) and LRG Government Arts College for Women (1,100).
