The Government Arts and Science College (Autonomous), Coimbatore, the second sought-after institution in the category at the State-level, next only to the Presidency Arts and Science College, has filled 90% seats after first round of counselling.Out of the allotted intake strength of 1,727 for 23 UG programmes in shift I and II, the college has admitted 1,545 candidates, and only 182 vacancies remain to be filled.In the first round of counselling in the general category, cut-off of 300 marks (except languages) was fixed for all subjects except Tamil and English, on the first day, and 260 marks and above on the second day.For languages, the admission was made based on the cut-off of 50 marks and above in the subject concerned (English or Tamil).On Thursday, candidates with cut-off of 230 marks and above (except languages) were admitted.In the special quota admissions carried out at the outset, 77 candidates were admitted out of the sanctioned strength of 150.The college has informed that the schedule of second round counselling will be informed later.The Government Arts and Science College for Women at Puliakulam has admitted 88 students for B.A. Economics and B.Com programmes for which the counselling was conducted on Tuesday.The counselling for B.Sc. Computer Science and B.Sc. Mathematics was conducted on Thursday. Seventy three students were admitted into B.Sc. Computer Science (two shifts combined) and six for B.Sc.
