Eight senior faculty members of the Government Arts College (Autonomous), Coimbatore, have been promoted and posted as principals of Grade II government arts colleges.The college ranks second in terms of the number of senior faculty members posted as principals, next only to the Presidency College (Autonomous), from which 10 faculty members have been posted as principals of Grade II government arts colleges.The eight senior faculty members are: P. Kanagaraj, Associate Professor in Political Science (posted as Principal, Government Arts and Science College, Avinashi); B Selvaraj, Associate Professor in Psychology (posted as Principal, Government Arts and Science College, Gudalur); Sheela Priyadarshini, Associate Professor in Zoology (posted as Principal, Government Arts and Science College, Modakurichi; V. Sivasubramanian, Associate Professor in Commerce (posted as Principal, Government Arts and Science College, Thalavadi); K. Shobha, Associate Professor in Economics (posted as Principal, Government College of Education for Women, Coimbatore); N. Meenakshi Sundareswari, Associate Professor in Commerce (posted as Principal, Government Arts and Science College, Anthiyur); Juliana Immaculate, Associate Professor in History (posted as Principal, Government Arts and Science College, Thondamuthur); and Clara Gunapurani Sargunar, Associate Professor in Zoology (posted as Principal, Government Arts and Science College for Women, Puliyakulam, Coimbatore).Four senior faculty members from government colleges in Tiruppur district have also been posted as Grade II principals. They are: M. Tamil Malar, Associate Professor in Tamil, LRG Government Arts College for Women (posted as Principal, Puratchi Thalaivi Amma Government Arts and Science College, Palladam); A. Vasudevan, Associate Professor in English, Government Arts College, Udumalpet (posted as Principal, Government Arts and Science College, Mettupalayam); A. Pushpalatha, Associate Professor in Commerce, Chikkanna Government Arts College, Tiruppur (posted as Principal, Government Arts and Science College, Dharmapuri); and Litty Koria, Associate Professor in Zoology, LRG Government College for Women, Tiruppur (posted as Principal, Government Arts and Science College, Pollachi).In the Nilgiris district, R. Sanil, Associate Professor in Zoology, Government Arts College, Udhagamandalam, has been posted as Principal, Government Arts and Science College, Coonoor.In all, 112 faculty members in associate professor grade were promoted as Principal Grade II and posted in government arts and science colleges, and colleges of education. The appointment, according to a government order, is subject to the outcome of writ petitions in the High Court.The writ petitions had been filed by aspirants to the post from science and mathematics background, who argue that their counterparts from arts and humanities background are at an advantage in scoring higher marks in the written examination for the selection process.The Tamil Nadu Government College Teachers’ Association has welcomed the postings.
