The Higher Education Department (Technical Education) has released the draft seat matrix for engineering and architecture courses in the State, with 1,59,151 seats from 227 engineering colleges for the academic year 2026-27.
Among these, 75,041 seats come under the government quota (KEA), 32,769 seats under the COMED-K quota, and 51,294 seats were management quota seats.
This year, a total of 5,235 seats and 10 engineering colleges have been increased in the draft matrix compared to last year. During the 2025-26 academic year, a total of 1,53,916 seats, including 72,506 government quota seats, were available from 217 colleges.
There is a 500-seat increase in government colleges, a 2,580-seat increase in private universities, a 1,695-seat increase in private colleges, and a marginal increase of 60 seats in deemed universities as per the matrix.
Meanwhile, the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) has informed that seats at some of the colleges, private universities, and for some courses have not been included in the published seat matrix following the recent guidelines issued by the Higher Education Department as per the recommendations by the Sadagopan Committee, which expressed concerns over the saturation of seats in Computer Science and related streams.
