Court Murder-accused Duncan Hoorn is on trial in the Western Cape High Court.

Groote Schuur Hospital staff recorded a battered and bruised Chantel Pasqualle-Hoorn under a false name upon arrival as her injuries were suspected to be linked to domestic violence.

This was the evidence of Dr Tim Giles, one of the first doctors to assess Pasqualle-Hoorn after she was admitted to hospital on June 28, 2024. Pasqualle-Hoorn, who was allegedly beaten to death by her husband Duncan Hoorn, remained in a coma for a month before she died. Hoorn has pleaded not guilty to charges of kidnapping, murder and defeating the administration of justice.

Giles told the Western Cape High Court, currently sitting in the Wynberg Regional Court, that when he completed his medical notes shortly after examining Pasqualle-Hoorn, a nursing sister informed him that the injuries were believed to be as a result of a suspected domestic assault.
