SYRIZA leader Sokratis Famellos said he is determined to implement the party central committee’s decision to politically support and align with Alexis Tsipras’ initiative, urging party members to respect democratically adopted decisions.
Addressing the political secretariat, Famellos criticized officials who, he said, ignored or reinterpreted the June decision. He argued that calls for new discussions on issues already decided contradicted the will of party members.
Thanasis Theocharopoulos said SYRIZA should support Tsipras’ effort while continuing its own course ahead of the Thessaloniki International Fair. He said Tsipras was correctly advancing the reorganization of the progressive political space, but that unity remained elusive.
Critics within the party challenged Famellos’ leadership and questioned the absence of a clear roadmap. Nikos Pappas said members heard nothing about a strategic plan or the party’s polling performance. Pavlos Polakis called for clarification on Tsipras’ intentions, while Rena Dourou warned that continued delays were fueling internal divisions.
