Leftist SYRIZA party leader Sokratis Famellos has reiterated his positive stance toward the newly launched Greek Left Alliance (ELAS) party, founded by former prime minister Alexis Tsipras.

“In the effort to remove this corrupt and dangerous New Democracy government and establish a progressive administration, no one is expendable,” Famellos said.

Just days earlier, Famellos argued that the new ELAS party launched last week by Tsipras – who led SYRIZA to power between 2015 and 2019 – had sparked significant interest among progressive voters and could serve as the foundation for a broader left-wing alliance.

In his latest remarks, Famellos described opposition to ELAS as a “strategic mistake,” calling the party’s creation a “major political event” and a “positive development” for the progressive camp.

“We stand by this initiative, we support it, and we do not see it as a competitor but as a partner,” he said.
