Russia may be preparing a "provocation” in the Baltic states or Poland that would stop short of a full attack, two senior sources told The Guardian newspaper.
Two countries on NATO’s eastern flank said the Kremlin may want to test the alliance’s cohesion as it comes under growing pressure from Ukraine’s strike campaign.
“We see indications that Russia is preparing military provocations against the Baltic countries or Poland,” the Latvian intelligence said on Monday.
A senior political source from a second NATO member state also told The Guardian that they were “picking up intelligence” that Moscow was “planning something against the Baltic states”.
According to Riga, Russia was not capable of opening a second front, but could resort to “hybrid attacks, such as missiles, drones or other actions designed to send a signal: stop supporting Ukraine, or you will have your own problems”.
