Just three months after introducing its most affordable laptop ever, Apple is increasing the starting price of the MacBook Neo. Originally priced at $599, the MacBook Neo is now selling for $699 and up. It’s still arguably one of the best laptops available in its price range. But it’s an example of how even a tech giant like Apple is not insulated from the rising prices of memory and storage.Apple is also raising prices for several other laptop and tablet models.MacBook NeoThe company isn’t touching iPhone prices (yet), but a wide range of other products cost more today than they did yesterday, with many models seeing price increases of $100 or more… and some costing much, much more. One interesting not-quite exception? Apple is raising the price for current Mac Mini systems. A model with an M4 processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD sold for $799 yesterday. Today it costs $999.But the company is also bringing back an entry-level 256GB configuration, allowing Apple to continue selling a Mac Mini model for $799. That’s kind of a price hike too – the M4/16GB/256GB model used to sell for $599 when it was first introduced in 2024. But Apple eventually phased out that model… before bringing it back today in an effort to continue offering a lower-priced option.Mac MiniApple isn’t the only company offering lower-spec models in an effort to keep prices low(er). Microsoft also recently began selling Surface Pro and Surface Laptop models with 8GB of RAM as lower-cost alternatives to their 16GB counterparts. Here’s an overview of Apple products that received price hikes today:June 24 priceJune 25 priceIncreaseMacBook Neo$599$699$100MacBook Air$1099$1299$200MacBook Pro$1699$1999$300iPad mini$499$599$100iPad Air$599$749$150iPad Pro$999$1199$200iMac$1299$1499$200Mac Mini (M4 Pro)$1399$1599$200Mac Studio (M4 Max)$1999$2499$500Mac Studio (M3 Ultra)$3999$5299$1300Apple TV$129$199$70HomePod mini$99$129$30HomePod$299$349$50Vision Pro$2499$3699$200If you’re wondering why the Mac Studio with an M3 Ultra processor has such a disproportionately large price increase, it’s probably because that model ships standard with 96GB of RAM, while pretty much every other device on this list uses significantly less for its base configuration. For example, the Mac Studio with M4 Max starts at 36GB of RAM, and most other Macs start at 16GB.via MacRumors, Reuters, and The Verge
