A new opinion poll shows that a majority of Poles are currently opposed to Ukraine’s accession to the European Union, with nearly 60% rejecting the idea, according to data cited by European Pravda and based on research conducted by the IBRiS institute for Radio ZET.
The survey found that 59.7% of respondents are against Ukraine joining the EU. Within that group, 27.4% said they are “rather” opposed, while 32.3% stated they are “definitely” against the move. On the other side, 35.4% of those surveyed expressed support for Ukraine’s membership bid, including 8.4% who said “definitely yes” and 26.9% who answered “rather yes.”
A small share of respondents, around 5%, reported no clear opinion on the issue. The poll suggests a divided public landscape, though with opposition clearly outweighing support at the national level.
Political affiliation appears to play a strong role in attitudes. Among voters of Poland’s governing coalition, which includes Civic Platform, The Left, the Polish People’s Party, and Poland 2050, support for Ukraine’s EU accession is significantly higher, with 64% in favor and 32% against. In contrast, among supporters of opposition parties such as Law and Justice, Confederation, Confederation of the Polish Crown, and Razem, only 24% back Ukraine’s EU membership, while 73% oppose it.
