Some public schools in Gauteng have been unable to issue learner report cards on time because of technical problems affecting a national school administration system.
The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) said the delays were linked to disruptions involving the South African School Administration and Management System (SA-SAMS), which schools use to capture, process and manage learner information.
In a statement, the department apologised to affected learners, parents and school communities, saying the problem stemmed from the temporary unavailability of the Citrix environment that supports the national system.
As a result, some schools have been unable to finalise learner records and print report cards.
Gauteng Education MEC Lebogang Maile acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the delays and said efforts were under way to restore the system.
