Australian data center firm NextDC has acquired a large parcel of land outside Melbourne, Victoria.Local press, including the Age, the Sydney Morning Herald, and others, report NextDC has acquired 169 hectares of land in Lovely Banks, Victoria, just outside of Geelong and some 70km west of Melbourne.The company acquired the site for AU$165 million (US$113.85m). The farmland was previously earmarked for residential development, but is close to a major substation and the Victorian Big Battery battery storage site.NextDC is yet to comment on the news.NextDC is already developing an Edge facility in Geelong. The company broke ground on the 4.4MW GE1 earlier this year.NextDC operates or is developing 20 data centers across Australia, including in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Canberra, and Adelaide. It is developing Edge sites in a number of locations across the country.Beyond Australia, NextDC currently has sites in planning or under evaluation in Auckland, New Zealand; Tokyo, Japan; Bangkok, Thailand; Johor and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; and Singapore.
