Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry of the Islamic Republic, called on the United States to refrain from providing “interpretations completely contrary to the explicit text of the memorandum of understanding (MoU),” stating that contradictory remarks by American officials fuel Iranian suspicion.
On Wednesday, June 24, Baghaei wrote on X, formerly Twitter, that the U.S. ruling establishment “has never shown sincerity in its behavior toward the Iranian nation.” He added that despite this track record, Iran entered the diplomatic process “in good faith” and signed the memorandum of understanding to end the imposed war.
He further noted that Iranians believe the “enemy’s malevolence” does not end with the signing of an agreement, and that Tehran will take every step with vigilance, keeping in mind the experience of the past five decades, especially the developments of the last year and a half.
The Islamic Republic’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson also emphasized that contradictory statements by U.S. officials regarding the war-ending agreement will not help reduce existing mistrust and will only serve as a reminder of “past breaches of promise.” He added that the principle of “commitment for commitment” requires the implementation of mutual obligations and the avoidance of interpretations that contradict the explicit text of the MoU.
