Esmaeil Baghaei, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic, outlined Tehran’s positions regarding the recent memorandum of understanding with the United States, emphasizing that nuclear materials and enriched uranium stockpiles will not be transferred out of Iran. He stated that, if necessary, the Islamic Republic can downblend its highly enriched uranium domestically.
Speaking to Iranian state television on Thursday, June 18, Baghaei also noted that the Persian and English versions of the agreement are completely identical, adding that the American side had signed the Persian text as well.
Highlighting the reciprocal nature of the commitments, he stated that the extent of Iran’s compliance with the terms of the memorandum would directly depend on how the United States implements its own obligations. According to him, Washington must not increase its military presence in the region or impose new sanctions against Iran during the 60-day negotiation window.
The Foreign Ministry spokesperson added that from the very first day of the agreement’s implementation, Iran must be able to export its oil without restrictions, use international insurance and shipping services, and have direct access to its oil revenues. He also called for the removal of barriers preventing Iran from accessing its frozen assets.
