Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for the Islamic Republic’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasized Tehran’s deep distrust of the United States and Israel, stating that Washington is responsible for implementing the commitments outlined in the Iran-U.S. agreement, including halting the war in Lebanon. He added that any violation of these commitments would be met with reciprocal action from Iran.
According to a report by the IRNA news agency, Baghaei said during a press conference that the Islamic Republic has absolutely no trust in the United States or Israel. However, he noted that Washington is obligated to fulfill its commitments and ensure that Israel also adheres to obligations regarding the cessation of the war in Lebanon. He stressed that the commitments of both sides are “corresponding and reciprocal,” and that Iran will respond if the agreement is violated.
The Foreign Ministry spokesperson also stated that the details of Iran’s nuclear program were not discussed in the text of the agreement. Instead, the two sides only agreed to negotiate on the nuclear issue and the lifting of sanctions over a 60-day period. According to Baghaei, the issues of uranium enrichment and enriched uranium stockpiles will be examined during those upcoming talks.
