Here’s what to do during the weekend of 26-28 June.
Summer is here, and with soaring temperatures comes a packed cultural calendar prepared by towns and municipalities across Slovakia. Throughout July and August, you can enjoy concerts, open-air cinema nights, festivals and much more. While it would be impossible to list every event, here is a selection of programmes in Bratislava, Poprad, Martin, Trenčín, Žilina, Trnava, Nitra and Košice. Be sure to check your local municipality's website to see what's happening near you.
A staple of summer cultural life in Trnava, western Slovakia, the Trnavský Jazzyk music festival is back. Running from Thursday to Saturday, the 23rd edition will feature both Slovak and international performers each day, including Lash & Grey, H3O Organ Trio, as well as Greek double bass player Petros Klampanis. Full festival passes are still available, as well as tickets for individual concerts. Find out more here and grab the tickets here.
Following the success of its debut last year, Danube Music Days returns this Friday and Saturday with another riverside celebration in Bratislava's Petržalka borough. Visitors can look forward to two days of energetic rave music and laid-back chillout sessions. This year's headliner is pioneering electronic group The Orb, joined by Trainspotting author and DJ Irvine Welsh, who will not only talk about his books but also perform a DJ set. Tickets are available as day passes or a two-day pass here, while more information about the line-up can be found here.
