Residents of Pudupalayam and neighbouring villages in Anthiyur submitted a petition to Revenue and Rural Development officials on Wednesday (June 24, 2026) opposing the proposed shifting of the annual horse fair from its traditional venue.The horse and cattle fair is held annually at Pudupalayam as part of the Aadi festival, and car festival of the Gurunathaswamy Temple attracts large numbers of visitors from neighbouring States, and horse enthusiasts from across the country.According to the petitioners, there are reports that efforts were under way to shift the horse fair to Koochikallur this year. In response, residents of Pudupalayam, Thanneerpandal, Gettisamudram and surrounding areas submitted a petition to Tahsildar Elanchezhiyan, the Block Development Officer and the Inspector of Police.The horse and cattle fair had been conducted at the same venue for nearly 200 years, and the authorities should not to shift it to another location.
