Mnikelwa Nxele has been granted R50,000 bail after appearing in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates’ Court

Mnikelwa Nxele, the KwaZulu-Natal Regional Commissioner of the Department of Correctional Services, appeared in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates’ Court following his arrest by the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) on charges of fraud and money laundering.

The matter was postponed to 16 September 2026 to allow for the application of a centralisation certificate from the office of the National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP).

Nxele was granted bail of R50,000, subject to stringent conditions.

According to investigators, the arrest stems from a referral by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) following investigations into evidence presented by former Bosasa executive Angelo Agrizzi at the State Capture Commission.
