Azar Azima, a veteran singer of Iranian music and one of the earliest vocalists of the enduring “Golha” radio program, passed away on June 23 at the age of 99 in Isfahan.
Azarmidokht Azima Serajpour, widely known as Azar Azima, was born in 1927 in Isfahan and began her artistic career with Radio Iran in 1954.
Her debut piece was composed by Abolhasan Saba, with lyrics by Abolhasan Varzi. She was also among the first artists to appear in the “Golha” series, performing in the very first episode of the “Yek Shakheh Gol” (A Single Branch of Flower) program, accompanied by Abolhasan Saba on the violin and Faramarz Payvar on the santur.
Throughout her artistic career, Azar Azima performed numerous pieces in the “Golha-ye Sahraei” (Desert Flowers) series and other radio programs. The piece “Rah-e Shiraz” (The Shiraz Way) is considered one of her best-known works and was performed with the Farabi Orchestra under the baton of her late husband, Morteza Hannaneh, a prominent composer and conductor.
