Homa Mirafshar, the prominent Iranian poet and lyricist, has died at the age of 89 in Los Angeles after a years-long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. This distinguished artist leaves behind a legacy of more than 600 memorable lyrics.
Morteza Barjasteh, the singer and composer, was the first to share the news of the lyricist’s passing on his Instagram page. Reflecting on his final visits with Homa Mirafshar, he wrote that in her final days, the artist no longer recognized those around her. He noted that she passed away last week in silence and away from the clamor, though her family did not immediately announce her death. According to him, Homa Mirafshar left this world with the deep wish of seeing her homeland once again.
Homa Mirafshar was born on February 23, 1937, and demonstrated her taste and talent for composing poetry from early childhood and throughout her elementary school years. In her youth, she married Ali Mirafshar and changed her surname from Homayoun to Mirafshar. This marriage brought her closer to the music community, and with her father’s encouragement, alongside the support of Homeyra, the renowned Iranian singer, she officially and professionally entered the realm of songwriting.
