The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal has urged residents to heed the call by King Misuzulu kaZwelithini for peaceful conduct ahead of the planned June 30 protests, as tensions surrounding illegal immigration continue to escalate. While reaffirming its support for citizens' constitutional right to protest, the ANC stressed that demonstrations must be conducted peacefully, lawfully and without intimidation, violence or the violation of others' rights.
The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal has welcomed the Zulu monarch's appeal for peace and restrain ahead of the planned June 30 anti-illegal immigration protests taking place across the country.
Zulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini made the call to his subjects on Sunday at the International Yoga Day in Durban. On Tuesday the ANC described his intervention as a timely reminder of the need to safeguard peace while citizens exercise their constitutional right to protest.
ANC KwaZulu-Natal spokesperson Sifiso Sonjica said the party fully supported the King's call for restraint.
"Our King, His Majesty King Misuzulu kaZwelithini, has spoken, and as the ANC we welcome the King's clarion call, made this past weekend in Durban, for no undocumented foreigners to be attacked and for bloodshed to be avoided at all costs, even as people exercise their right to protest against undocumented foreigners," said Sonjica.
