Ruling New Democracy is moving to address what party officials describe as political weak spots ahead of the next national election, while publicly maintaining that voting will take place in 2027.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and other top government officials continue to insist that elections are scheduled for 2027. At the same time, however, party and government headquarters are accelerating efforts to strengthen areas of concern, particularly in Macedonia and the Peloponnese.

One focus is on party members associated with former prime minister Kostas Karamanlis. New Democracy is seeking to maintain ties with influential local figures from that camp, with Dora Bakoyannis advising outreach efforts aimed at preserving support among Karamanlis-aligned networks. The party is also closely monitoring moves by former prime minister Antonis Samaras, who is described as steadily moving toward the creation of a new political party.
