Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis pledged Wednesday to redouble his conservative government’s efforts to address the cost-of-living crisis and other key policy demands in the remaining year until the next parliamentary elections are scheduled to be held.

Mitsotakis said that with his governing New Democracy party’s recent congress out of the way, and despite looming changes across the political spectrum with new opposition parties set to be launched in coming days, his administration must shift a gear up.

“Now is the opportunity to return with greater intensity to implementing the work of our government,” he said during a regular briefing meeting with President Konstantinos Tassoulas.

“Just one year remains until the end of our term, which means that the challenges of the coming months require an acceleration of our work,” he added. “Every month counts.”

Mitsotakis has repeatedly dismissed speculation he might call early elections.
