The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), Lagos State Branch, has condemned the violent attack and assault on human rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) within the premises of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday, June 22, 2026.
In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by its Lagos State Chairman, Adewale Ojo, CDHR described the incident as a dangerous assault on the rule of law and democratic institutions.
The group said any act of intimidation or violence within the judiciary amounts to a direct attack on the independence of the courts and citizens’ rights.
According to the group, the judiciary remains “the last hope of the common man” and must be protected from interference by agents of state power.
