Sportico took to the iconic Croisette on the first day of Cannes Lions, speaking exclusively with some of the biggest names in sport as an official media partner of SPORT BEACH.
Sportico spoke with Celtics’ Jaylen Brown about the launch of Plyrs Untd, the NBA’s new commercial arm that will look to build equity and expand the union’s yearly revenue. Brown emphasizes how Plyrs Untd, which is 100% owned by the players, could have a massive impact on the athletes.
The NBPA is kicking off this new venture with a digital ad campaign, “Own the Game,” which will debut at Cannes Lions. The film is narrated by nine-time All-Star Kyrie Irving and features Stephen Curry, Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, Donovan Mitchell and Jaylen Brown.
Sportico talked with women’s basketball legend Diana Taurasi about the growth of the WNBA, and how she bases her investments on passion and inspiration. She also drops her dream partnership. (Range Rover, slide in her DMs!) Additionally, two-time Champions League winner Daniel Sturridge discusses the importance of investing as an athlete and what he would create as his dream investment.
Sportico got some time with the executives in sport, as well. Olly Dale, the managing partner, Europe of Elevate, discussed the massive opportunity for sports business in Europe and how it differs from the U.S., while Ben Weiss, CEO of Syntilay, gives Sportico the details on his pickleball recovery shoe and his partnership with Terrell Owens. Ed Davidson, CEO of Cannes Lions Sport, talked with Sportico‘s Scott Soshnick about the role that sport plays alongside entertainment.
