A Federal High Court in Bauchi has ordered the Department of State Services (DSS) to arraign Mallam Rabi'u Habibu Wanka before a court of competent jurisdiction within 14 days, following six months of detention without trial.

The judgment, delivered on Monday, June 22, 2026, came in a fundamental rights enforcement suit filed against the DSS over Wanka’s prolonged detention.

Counsel to the applicant, Barrister Kamal Isa, confirmed that the court ruled in favour of Wanka and directed the secret police to either formally charge him or comply with the court's order within the stipulated period.

Wanka was arrested on January 8, 2026, just a day before his daughter’s wedding, and has remained in custody ever since without being brought before any court.

Earlier in May, SaharaReporters reported that the court was informed during proceedings that the DSS was still detaining Wanka without arraigning him before any competent court.
