The Greater Chennai Police registered 38 cases and arrested 77 persons during a special anti-drug enforcement drive conducted over the past week. The operation led to the seizure of 22 kg of ganja, 831 grams of methamphetamine, 6 mg of opium, 2 mg of cocaine, 1,222 tablets, and cash amounting to ₹1,04,360.Intensified action against narcotic substances was taken across the city. Under the supervision of Deputy Commissioners of Police in all 12 police districts, special teams comprising Assistant Commissioners and Inspectors have been continuously monitoring and taking action against those involved in possessing, transporting, storing, and selling narcotic substances.The Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU) had also been actively gathering intelligence and monitoring individuals involved in the sale of narcotics and synthetic drugs, as well as their associates. Based on intelligence inputs, suspects have been apprehended and handed over to the respective police stations for further legal action.As part of the ongoing crackdown, police teams led by station inspectors conducted intensive surveillance and vehicle checks across various parts of the city between June 14 and 20. During this period, 38 cases were registered against individuals involved in the illegal transportation, storage, and clandestine sale of narcotic substances, resulting in the arrest of 77 persons.
