The second phase of the search for the remains of those who died during World War II on the site of the former village of Puzhnyky has begun in the Ternopil region.
This was reported by a Ukrinform correspondent from the scene.
Organizational work is underway at the site of the old cemetery. Members of the Ukrainian-Polish expedition have brought in the necessary equipment, set up tents, and are preparing to conduct the search operations. Bomb disposal experts have surveyed the area where the archaeologists will be working.
“Our bomb disposal experts surveyed an area of approximately 5,000 square meters to a depth of 50 centimeters for the presence of hazardous objects. It is important to conduct such an inspection before search operations, as the area may be contaminated with munitions from World War I and World War II. Today, we did not find any explosive objects,” said Roman Rohantynskyi, head of the sector for the organization of pyrotechnic operations and humanitarian demining at the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Ternopil region.
