Ukraine hopes to begin the first search operations as early as August in the village of Lasków in Poland's Subcarpathian (Podkarpackie) Voivodeship in the country's southeast, where Ukrainians who died during World War II may be buried.
This was stated by Ukraine's Ambassador to Poland, Vasyl Bodnar, Ukrinform reports, citing RMF24.
"We hope that the first works in the village of Lasków will begin in August," Bodnar said.
The ambassador emphasized that Ukraine has been systematically facilitating search and exhumation work related to Polish victims on its territory and expects the same approach toward Ukrainian memorial sites in Poland.
He recalled that over the past two years, Kyiv has issued a number of permits for exhumation and search operations at the request of Polish state and public institutions. In particular, in 2025 exhumations were carried out in the former village of Puzhnyky in the Ternopil region and in Lviv. This year, several search expeditions have also been conducted in the Volyn, Rivne, and Ternopil regions.
