Truck operators involved in distribution of Aavin milk sachets on Saturday evening struck work threatening to disrupt Aavin milk supply on Sunday. One of the distributors said that the contract of Aavin milk distribution is done once in two years.“The contract got over few months back, but the administration extended it by six months without floating fresh tender,” he added. However, with the recent steep rise in diesel price, the vehicle operators have demanded rise in distribution charges.“We are not able to make both ends meet with a meagre amount of ₹1,400 a day as we need to foot the expenses of fuel, driver and load men wages as the workers are demanding higher wages. Besides, they have to remain awake throughout the night,” he added. As the Aavin has not floated fresh tender and also not raised their charges, the distributors have struck work.Distribution of Aavin milk is being done with alternative vehicles to all the 72 routes that cater to the entire city and suburban areas., said one of the Aavin milk booth agent.
