Asefon spoke briefly with the APC agent and then immediately drove off.
There was open vote buying at Ward 5, Polling Unit 3, Ado-West, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, on Saturday as agents of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) distributed tags to voters who were instructed to return with them after casting their ballots in exchange for money.
The incident, which played out openly at the polling unit located under a bridge in Ado-Ekiti, was witnessed by SaharaReporters, which observed how an APC party agent handed out tags to voters before they proceeded to vote.
According to observations at the polling unit, the voters were told to cast their votes and return with the tags afterwards to collect cash, in what appeared to be a coordinated vote-buying operation.
Also spotted at the scene was Sunday Asefon, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to President Bola Tinubu, who arrived in a black Jeep and was seen speaking with an APC party agent near the bridge where the polling unit was located.
