Security agencies in Enugu, Rivers, Ondo and Kano states have intensified measures against vote-buying, voter intimidation and other electoral offences ahead of Saturday’s by-elections, warning that violators will be arrested and prosecuted.

This was as the police commands in the affected states announced restrictions on movement and deployed personnel to polling units, collation centres and other critical locations as part of efforts to ensure peaceful, free and credible elections.

In Rivers State, the Police Command said anyone found engaging in electoral violence, vote-buying, voter intimidation, thuggery or other unlawful activities during the Rivers South-East Senatorial District byelection would face the full weight of the law.

The command’s spokesperson, Blessing Agabe, quoting the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, in a statement on Friday said the restriction of human and vehicular movement in seven local government areas was part of security measures aimed at guaranteeing a peaceful, orderly, free, fair and credible election.
