He noted that police officers, beyond maintaining order, are expected to ensure the sanctity of the electoral process by preventing acts capable of undermining the credibility of the election.
The Nigerian police failed to enforce election regulations during the Ekiti State governorship election, particularly in situations where polling agents were openly seen inducing voters, ActionAid Nigeria has said.
This was disclosed by Celesyine Okwudili Odo, Head of Programmes and Policy at ActionAid Nigeria, during an interview with SaharaReporters from the situation room monitoring the Ekiti governorship election.
Speaking on the conduct of security personnel at polling units, Odo said one of the major concerns observed by the organisation was the failure of police officers to take action against party agents engaged in improper conduct, including voter inducement.
