The reinforcements, according to the statement, are in addition to personnel already mobilised from other security agencies operating within the state.

The Enugu State Police Command has announced a total restriction of human and vehicular movement across the six local government areas that make up the Enugu North Senatorial District ahead of Saturday’s bye-election, as security agencies intensify preparations to prevent electoral violence and malpractice.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, disclosed that movement would be restricted from 12am to 6pm on June 20, 2026, in Igbo-Etiti, Igbo Eze North, Igbo Eze South, Nsukka, Udenu and Uzo-Uwani Local Government Areas where the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will conduct the senatorial bye-election.

According to the police, the restriction will not apply to electoral officials and persons engaged in verified essential duties. The command said the measure was aimed at ensuring a peaceful, orderly and credible electoral process in the senatorial district.

The police further revealed that additional security personnel had been deployed to Enugu State on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to bolster security arrangements before, during and after the election.
