The Enugu State Government has announced restrictions on movement across the six local government areas that make up the Enugu North Senatorial District ahead of Saturday’s senatorial bye-election.

The government said the restriction, which will take effect from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on June 20, is aimed at ensuring a peaceful, orderly and credible conduct of the election being organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

In a public service announcement issued on Friday by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, residents were informed that movement would be restricted across the district’s six local government areas and 102 electoral wards during the voting period.

According to the statement, only INEC officials, security personnel, accredited election observers, media practitioners and other individuals authorised to perform election-related duties will be exempted from the restriction.
