The Greater Chennai Police have arrested 11 persons for allegedly possessing narcotic substances, meant for sale, in Ayanavaram and Vanagaram.Acting on a tip-off, a team from the Ayanavaram police station conducted surveillance near the Sai Baba Temple at Thikkakulam on Thursday. They intercepted seven persons moving suspiciously. During a search, the police recovered 2.5 grams of methamphetamine, 15 grams of ganja, a mobile phone, and two motorcycles from their possession. Two of the arrested persons were identified as Gopinath, 36, and Yugesh, 24, and five others.Based on information provided by Gopinath during interrogation, the police arrested two more suspects, identified as Appu alias Aruppu Appu, 36, of Kilpauk and Akash, 22, of Nammalwarpet, who were allegedly involved in supplying the narcotic substances. They seized an additional 2.4 grams of methamphetamine, a mobile phone, and a motorcycle.With these seizures, the total recovery in the case stood at 4.9 grams of methamphetamine, 15 grams of ganja, two mobile phones, and three motorcycles.Also on Thursday, the Inspector of Vanagaram police station received a tip-off about narcotics being transported and sold illegally. Based on this, a police team conducted surveillance on the service road near Adaiyalampattu flyover on Thursday afternoon.Autorickshaw searchedDuring the operation, officers intercepted an autorickshaw and questioned its occupant. A search revealed that he was carrying ganja oil and ganja. Following the seizure, the Vanagaram police arrested Suriya, 25, of Chenneerkupam in Poonamallee and Sanjay, 20, of Mannurpet, who was allegedly connected to the case.The police seized 3 grams of ganja oil, 32 grams of ganja, two painkiller tablets, a small weighing scale, ₹2,000 cash, believed to be proceeds from ganja sales, and an autorickshaw allegedly used in the offence.
