The Avadi City Police arrested six persons in two separate operations and seized 140 kg of ganja and nearly 2,000 narcotic tablets from them.In the first incident, a patrol team from the T6 Avadi police station intercepted three youths behaving suspiciously near a house in Vetri Nagar, JP Estate area, on Thursday (May 14, 2026). The accused were identified as Dayalan (21), Udhaya Prasanth (21), and Gopalakrishnan (21), all residents of Ayapakkam.During a search, police recovered around 62 kg of ganja from a bag in their possession. Based on their confession, police arrested another accused, Gopi (19), from the same locality and seized an additional 38 kg of ganja from the house. Two motorcycles allegedly used for transporting ganja and a car used for local distribution were also confiscated.Police investigation revealed that the accused allegedly sourced ganja from Andhra Pradesh and Odisha and smuggled it into Chennai by posing as professional bikers travelling with tourist riding groups to avoid police checks. The contraband was later supplied to local peddlers and customers for profit, police said.In a separate operation on Friday, Ayapakkam police intercepted two persons during vehicle checks near a petrol bunk on Donekala Camp Road. The accused, identified as Gokul (21) and Rukeshkumar (19), both from Ayapakkam, were found carrying around 40 kg of ganja, 1,700 Nitrazepam tablets, and 300 Tapentadol tablets.Police seized the narcotic substances and the two-wheeler used by the accused.
